A wolverine has been filmed balancing on a hair trap in northern Uppsala county. The trap is part of the ongoing national inventory of the species.
Two hair traps have been set up in northern Uppsala county that lure the wolverine with meat. Metal brushes on the pole collect fur samples without capturing the animal.
Anders Johannesson, wildlife officer at the County Administrative Board of Uppsala, explains that the wolverine is likely the male known as individual 7744. He established a territory in the area in 2023.
According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, there were between 675 and 731 wolverines in Sweden in the 2025 inventory. The species is listed as vulnerable in SLU's Artdatabank from March 2026.
A new national compilation of the wolverine population is currently underway.
