Zimbabwe launches national AI strategy

Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched a national AI strategy effective from 2026 to 2030. The plan aims to integrate AI technology into government services. It seeks to foster innovation and improve public services.

On Megabit 7, 2018, Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, set to run from 2026 to 2030. The initiative aims to promote innovation, enhance public services, and advance the country's digital transformation. Mnangagwa stated it provides a robust response to rapid technological changes and will strengthen sectors including agriculture, mining, health, finance, and education. He announced plans to establish specialized research centers for AI knowledge management and provide infrastructure support for businesses adopting the technology. Information and Communication Technology Minister Tatenda Mavetera highlighted improvements in national digital infrastructure and ongoing AI training for civil servants. Meanwhile, Ethiopia has advanced in this area through its Artificial Intelligence Institute, which has created numerous jobs. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed identified technology as one of five key growth levers and noted efforts to join the world's second AI university.

The event will showcase India's technological ingenuity and use of AI for public welfare. Experts view India as a potential global leader in AI applications and evaluations.

The AI Impact Summit 2026 begins today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marking the Global South's first major AI conclave. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the five-day event at 5 PM, attended by world leaders, CEOs, and experts. Under the theme 'Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya,' discussions focus on human-centric AI applications.

The output of China's core artificial intelligence industry exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan ($165 billion) in 2025, with more than 6,200 companies operating in the field, said Li Lecheng, head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The remarks came after the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing on Thursday.
