A Swedish man in his mid-80s has been detained in Spain after being arrested with 4.5 kilograms of cocaine at Madrid airport on June 5.
The man was arrested at Madrid airport while traveling from Costa Rica to Brussels. His luggage contained 4.5 kilograms of cocaine packaged in nine cylinders wrapped in paper.
According to Spanish media, an initial police investigation indicates the man was likely recruited by a drug smuggling network. There is evidence suggesting he had made several trips as a drug courier to various cities.
Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirms that a man of the same age was detained in Spain in June. The man is receiving consular support from the embassy in Madrid.
