L'ancien ministre de la Justice Masutha témoigne sur la décision de libération conditionnelle d'Eugene de Kock

L'ancien ministre de la Justice Michael Masutha a déclaré à la Commission Khampepe qu'il avait rencontré plus de 250 proches de victimes de l'époque de l'apartheid après avoir découvert qu'ils n'avaient pas été consultés lors de la demande de libération conditionnelle d'Eugene de Kock en 2014.

Il a organisé une réunion avec les proches, qui ont confirmé ne pas avoir été consultés, ce qui l'a conduit à reporter la décision de libération conditionnelle. Masutha a par la suite accordé la libération conditionnelle à la condition que de Kock aide à localiser les restes des victimes. Il a également décrit avoir autorisé la réouverture des enquêtes sur les décès d'Ahmed Timol, de Neil Aggett et de Hoosen Mia Haffejee, et a déclaré qu'aucune politique visant à supprimer les dossiers de la Commission de vérité et de réconciliation (TRC) n'avait existé durant son mandat.
