Fred Machado plaide coupable de blanchiment d'argent et de fraude aux États-Unis

L'homme d'affaires argentin Fred Machado a reconnu auprès des autorités fédérales américaines au Texas son rôle dans un système de blanchiment d'argent et de fraude électronique lié à la vente d'aéronefs.

Machado, qui avait prêté des avions pour la campagne présidentielle de 2019 de José Luis Espert, a plaidé coupable de complot en vue de blanchir de l'argent et de commettre une fraude électronique. Le dossier a été déposé devant la cour fédérale du district Est du Texas, présidée par le juge Amos L. Mazzant.

L'accord de plaider-coupable écarte l'accusation initiale de trafic de drogue. Les enquêteurs ont affirmé que Machado avait récolté des fonds auprès d'investisseurs en faisant de fausses promesses concernant des avions commerciaux inexistants par le biais de sociétés telles que South Aviation Inc et Pampa Aircraft Financing.

Le président Javier Milei a défendu Espert, qualifiant les accusations précédentes d'opération politique et médiatique. Extradé d'Argentine, Machado est détenu dans l'Oklahoma depuis six mois. La sentence est attendue dans les semaines à venir.
