L'Inde presse le Bangladesh d'accélérer la vérification des migrants illégaux

L'Inde a exhorté jeudi le Bangladesh à accélérer la vérification de près de 3 000 suspects en situation irrégulière. Cet appel fait suite aux déclarations de responsables bangladais concernant de possibles incidents de refoulement après la victoire du BJP au Bengale occidental.

Lors du point presse hebdomadaire, le porte-parole du ministère des Affaires étrangères, Randhir Jaiswal, a déclaré que plus de 2 862 cas de vérification de nationalité restaient en attente auprès du Bangladesh, certains depuis plus de cinq ans. Il a souligné que tous les ressortissants étrangers en situation irrégulière en Inde doivent être rapatriés conformément aux lois et aux accords bilatéraux. M. Jaiswal a ajouté que la coopération du Bangladesh est essentielle au bon déroulement de ce processus.

Ces remarques interviennent quelques jours après la victoire écrasante du Bharatiya Janata Party au Bengale occidental. Le ministre bangladais des Affaires étrangères, Khalilur Rahman, avait déclaré sur la page Facebook du parti au pouvoir que Dhaka agirait en cas d'incidents de refoulement. Le ministre bangladais de l'Intérieur, Salahuddin Ahmed, a exprimé plus tard l'espoir qu'aucun incident de ce type ne se produise.

M. Jaiswal a également abordé la question du partage des eaux de la rivière Teesta. Il a noté que l'Inde et le Bangladesh partagent 54 rivières et maintiennent des mécanismes bilatéraux structurés qui se réunissent régulièrement pour discuter des questions liées à l'eau.
