Robert Vanatta, âgé de 30 ans, a été reconnu coupable de 14 chefs d'accusation criminels, notamment séquestration, intimidation, mise en danger délibérée, strangulation, violence conjugale et négligence envers une personne à charge. Le juge Roesener de la cour de circuit du comté de Johnson a prononcé la sentence le 21 mai, à l'issue d'un procès qui s'est terminé en mars.
