Jean Messiha a procédé jeudi à la restitution intégrale des fonds aux plaignantes, selon ses avocats. Me Gérald Pandelon a déclaré à l'AFP que la somme de 42 000 euros avait été reversée et qu'aucun élément intentionnel ni matériel n'était attaché à l'infraction alléguée d'abus de confiance.

Les avocates des veuves ont exprimé leur regret face au délai. Me Matthieu Chirez a indiqué que la restitution n'était intervenue qu'après la mise en cause pénale et la médiatisation de l'affaire. Me Pauline Ragot a souligné que les faits demeuraient caractérisés et relevaient désormais de l'autorité judiciaire.

Les plaintes pour abus de confiance ont été déposées le 21 mai à Paris par Sandrine Le Hay Moello et Mary Garcia. Jean Messiha avait initialement attribué l'erreur à des défaillances internes de la plateforme GoFundMe.
