Sergio Ramírez élu au fauteuil L de la RAE, vacant depuis le départ de Mario Vargas Llosa

L'écrivain nicaraguayen Sergio Ramírez a été élu jeudi pour occuper le fauteuil L à l'Académie royale espagnole, vacant depuis le décès de Mario Vargas Llosa en avril 2025.

Le vote à huis clos a eu lieu lors de la séance plénière de l'académie à Madrid. Ramírez était le seul candidat et a reçu le soutien des académiciens Víctor García de la Concha, Luis Mateo Díez et du directeur Santiago Muñoz Machado.

Le nouveau membre dispose d'un délai maximum de deux ans pour prononcer son discours d'investiture. Ramírez, lauréat du prix Cervantes 2017 et auteur de plus de soixante-dix livres, vit en exil en Espagne depuis 2021 après avoir été déchu de sa nationalité nicaraguayenne.

En 2023, le régime de Daniel Ortega a révoqué sa citoyenneté. Un groupe de 214 intellectuels de plusieurs pays a soutenu sa candidature face aux objections de certaines victimes du sandinisme.
