Sergio Ramírez elegido para la silla L de la RAE en sustitución de Vargas Llosa

El escritor nicaragüense Sergio Ramírez ha sido elegido este jueves para ocupar la silla L de la Real Academia Española, vacante desde el fallecimiento de Mario Vargas Llosa en abril de 2025.

La votación se celebró a puerta cerrada en el pleno de la institución en Madrid. Ramírez fue el único candidato y contó con el aval de los académicos Víctor García de la Concha, Luis Mateo Díez y el director Santiago Muñoz Machado.

El nuevo académico tiene un plazo máximo de dos años para leer su discurso de ingreso. Ramírez, Premio Cervantes 2017 y autor de más de setenta libros, vive exiliado en España desde 2021 tras ser despojado de su nacionalidad nicaragüense.

En 2023 el régimen de Daniel Ortega le retiró la ciudadanía. Un grupo de 214 intelectuales de varios países respaldó su candidatura frente a las objeciones de algunas víctimas del sandinismo.
