El rector de la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Julián Garde, ha sido elegido presidente de la Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas (CRUE) para los próximos tres años.

Garde, catedrático de Veterinaria nacido en Madrid en 1966, sustituye a Eva Alcón al frente de esta asociación privada. El cambio se produce en un momento en que las universidades privadas se acercan en número a las públicas.

Àngels Fitó, rectora de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, ocupará la vicepresidencia segunda, vinculada a los centros privados. Francisco Olivas, de la Universidad Pablo de Olavide, asumirá la primera vicepresidencia.

Garde ha señalado que impulsará el mandato de la LOSU para alcanzar el 1% de financiación en la universidad pública para 2030. No tuvo rivales en la elección, que sigue la práctica habitual de consenso en la CRUE.
