Svartbyn hits 20 degrees before Gävle

Svartbyn in Överkalix recorded 20.3 degrees on Saturday and may reach meteorological summer before Gävle. Warmer air is expected to arrive across the country next week.

Eastern Norrbotten showed summer temperatures on Saturday while the rest of northern Sweden remained at spring levels. Svartbyn in Överkalix reached 20.3 degrees thanks to fewer clouds and light winds.

Meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist at Klart explained that the location creates an inland climate where warm air from Finland and Russia can settle more easily than along the coast.

SMHI's Hilda Westberg forecasts temperatures rising from Tuesday and Wednesday. In Götaland and Svealand it may reach 24 or 25 degrees later in the week.
