Le président Donald Trump a annoncé jeudi qu'un nouvel accord sur l'énergie nucléaire entre les États-Unis et l'Arabie saoudite exigerait de Ryad qu'il normalise ses relations avec Israël par le biais des accords d'Abraham. Le secrétaire américain à l'Énergie, Chris Wright, et le ministre saoudien de l'Énergie, le prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, ont signé mercredi cet accord d'une durée de 30 ans. Il permettrait aux entreprises américaines de fournir des réacteurs nucléaires et du combustible pour répondre aux besoins énergétiques saoudiens.

Le lendemain, Trump a publié sur Truth Social que l'accord « sera approuvé, mais est totalement conditionné à l'adhésion de l'Arabie saoudite aux accords d'Abraham, très respectés et couronnés de succès ». La porte-parole de la Maison-Blanche, Karoline Leavitt, a déclaré aux journalistes que l'administration poursuivrait les discussions avec ses homologues saoudiens afin de finaliser le texte.

Le Premier ministre israélien, Benjamin Netanyahu, a salué cette condition dans une déclaration. L'Arabie saoudite affirme depuis longtemps qu'elle ne rejoindra pas les accords sans avancées vers la création d'un État palestinien, une perspective à laquelle Israël s'oppose.

L'accord doit être soumis à l'examen du Congrès avant de pouvoir entrer en vigueur.
