Truphena Muthoni établit un nouveau record du monde du plus grand nombre d'arbres enlacés en une heure

L'écologiste kényane Truphena Muthoni a enlacé 1 234 arbres en une heure le 8 mai au Jardim Botânico Brasília, battant provisoirement le record mondial Guinness qui était précédemment de 1 123.

L'activiste de 22 ans, surnommée la "Tree Hugger for Justice", a dépassé son objectif de 1 172 arbres lors de sa tournée de sensibilisation à l'environnement. Elle a déclaré : "L'objectif était de 1 172. Nous en avons atteint 1 234". Cette performance a eu lieu le vendredi 8 mai 2026 et reste soumise à la ratification officielle par le Guinness World Records.

Le Dr Andrew Karanja, ambassadeur du Kenya au Brésil, a assisté à l'événement aux côtés de la cheffe adjointe de mission Peris Kariuki et du président du Jardim Botânico Brasília, Allan Freire. Des ressortissants kényans et des résidents locaux se sont également rassemblés pour soutenir cette tentative.

Muthoni détient déjà le record du plus long marathon d'enlacement d'arbres après avoir étreint un arbre indigène à Nyeri pendant 72 heures en décembre 2025. Ses efforts visent à promouvoir la protection des arbres indigènes et à honorer les systèmes de connaissances autochtones.
