Des femmes à la tête de gangs de voyous lors d'affrontements politiques à Kisii

Six femmes et un homme ont été arrêtés à la suite d'une attaque contre un convoi politique à Keumbu.

L'attaque a eu lieu vendredi dernier dans la région de Nyaribari Chache. Elle a entraîné un décès, plusieurs blessés et des dommages sur des véhicules, dont l'un transportait l'ancien président de la Cour suprême, David Maraga. Les arrestations ont suscité un débat sur le groupe Ebirongo opérant dans la zone. Ce groupe, initialement créé comme une équipe de mobilisation de la jeunesse, inclut désormais des femmes. Une femme de 31 ans a déclaré avoir rejoint Ebirongo en janvier dernier et être payée 1 000 shillings par jour. D'autres femmes ont cité les difficultés financières et le chômage comme raisons de leur adhésion.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen said four people died and at least 30 others were injured during Monday's anti-fuel protests.

Seven people were killed in a Saturday evening attack in Tseikuru, Kitui, between Kamba and Somali communities.
