Frauen führen Schlägerbanden bei politischen Zusammenstößen in Kisii an

Nach einem Angriff auf einen politischen Konvoi in Keumbu wurden sechs Frauen und ein Mann festgenommen.

Der Angriff ereignete sich am vergangenen Freitag in der Gegend von Nyaribari Chache. Er forderte ein Todesopfer, mehrere Verletzte und führte zu Sachschäden an Fahrzeugen, darunter eines, in dem der ehemalige Oberste Richter David Maraga saß.

Die Festnahmen haben eine Debatte über die in der Region aktive Ebirongo-Gruppe ausgelöst. Die Gruppe wurde ursprünglich als Jugendmobilisierungstrupp gegründet, umfasst mittlerweile jedoch auch Frauen.

Eine 31-jährige Frau gab an, dass sie Ebirongo im Januar dieses Jahres beigetreten sei und täglich 1.000 Shilling erhalten habe. Andere Frauen nannten Not und Arbeitslosigkeit als Gründe für ihren Beitritt.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen said four people died and at least 30 others were injured during Monday's anti-fuel protests.

Seven people were killed in a Saturday evening attack in Tseikuru, Kitui, between Kamba and Somali communities. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has deployed a high-powered security team led by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat to the area. Police condemned the attack and promised a full investigation.
