New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke about second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. sucking on a green lollipop during a game against the Detroit Tigers. The incident occurred Monday night in a 5-3 loss at Comerica Park. Boone addressed the matter publicly on Tuesday.
Boone appeared on the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast Tuesday morning and said the lollipop “pisses me off.” Later that afternoon during a pregame media session in the dugout, he added that he had spoken with Chisholm and that the issue “should be over with.”
“I was annoyed by it. I addressed it. And at the end of the day, it’s not that big of a deal,” Boone said. He noted he learned of the lollipop after the game and does not believe it belongs on the field.
No balls were hit to the infield during the fifth inning when Chisholm had the lollipop in his mouth. Chisholm finished 1-for-4 and is batting .226 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and 23 stolen bases this season.
