Yonhap and Save the Children host mini marathon for migrant workers' children

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency and Save the Children co-hosted a fundraising mini marathon on May 2 in Yeouido Park, Seoul, to support children of migrant workers. Around 3,000 participants, including children, ran a 4.2-kilometer course to aid kids facing challenges in medical care and education. The event, launched in 2011, has drawn about 110,000 participants overall.

The event in Yeouido Park, western Seoul, drew around 3,000 participants, including children, who ran to raise funds and awareness for children of migrant backgrounds struggling with access to medical care, education, and other child services.

"Today's marathon is not merely about running," Yonhap News Agency President and CEO Hwang Dae-il said in congratulatory remarks read by executive director Kim Jae-hong. "Your heartfelt effort and participation in today's running will serve as an encouragement to children who are struggling far away."

Save the Children Korea CEO Gabriel Taeyoung Jung vowed to ensure that "all children are protected without discrimination and can grow up healthy regardless of their backgrounds."

The marathon was held simultaneously in four other cities, including Daejeon and Busan, and will continue in 11 regions throughout October. About 110,000 people have participated since its launch in 2011.
