A Colorado man has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for kidnapping a woman who witnessed his car crash last year.
Shane McSwane, 29, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. A judge ordered the sentences to run consecutively after the May 25, 2025, incident in Aurora.
McSwane forced his way into Grace Dotson's vehicle after she stopped to call 911 near the Interstate 70 and Interstate 225 interchange. He held her captive for four hours while driving erratically across multiple counties.
Deputies ended the pursuit in Huerfano County using stop sticks and a PIT maneuver. Dotson and her family addressed the court at sentencing, describing the ordeal as a nightmare while expressing hope for McSwane's rehabilitation.
Pueblo County District Attorney Kala Beauvais praised Dotson's strength and resilience during the proceedings.
