Development of Princess Maker: Children of Revelation resumes with new studio

Princess Maker: Children of Revelation, the latest entry in the long-running series, is back in development after a major setback at its original studio. D-Zard has partnered with Gear2 to continue work on the game, targeting a full release in the first half of 2026. Existing save files from early access will not carry over due to significant changes.

The Princess Maker series, known for its life-simulation gameplay where players raise a child into adulthood over an eight-year period, saw its newest installment launch in early access on Steam in July 2025. Developed under license from Gainax—which shut down following bankruptcy proceedings—Princess Maker: Children of Revelation marked the first mainline entry since 2007. The project began with strong support, raising about $250,000 through a 2024 Tumblbug crowdfunding campaign, backed by over 4,800 supporters and exceeding its goal by more than 350 percent.

However, development hit a snag in September 2025 when D-Zard, a South Korean studio, underwent major restructuring. The team working on the game—all 38 employees as of July—left the company, reducing staff to just seven. The project was paused indefinitely and slated for transfer to an external developer, postponing planned updates.

On January 2, 2026, D-Zard announced via Steam that production has resumed through a partnership with Gear2, known for the mobile idle RPG Slayer Legend. The studio explained that the past months involved rebuilding its development environment amid contract difficulties. Based on player feedback, the team is implementing significant changes to game elements, including prioritization of the Harvest Festival, events, and exploration areas. While account-bound features like Fate Cards and Collection items may persist, compatibility issues mean save files from early access builds will not be supported in the full 1.0 release.

The game allows players to shape their character's path through choices in schooling, work, friendships, and outings, leading to varied endings with professions or partnerships. No updated roadmap was provided, but the full version remains on track for PC via Steam in the first half of 2026.
