Epik High's Tablo exposes Korean song censorship rules

Epik High rapper Tablo discussed strict music censorship in Korea during a recent podcast episode, highlighting an unusual case involving one of the group's tracks. The revelation has prompted widespread online debate about the system's priorities.

Tablo shared the story on his podcast Hey Tablo, focusing on the song "Ddu Ddu Ru." A lyric by Mithra Jin referencing "200 km pokju," or youth speeding at 200 kilometers per hour, led to the track being censored because it exceeded Korea's legal speed limit.

Officials reportedly sent a formal notice to the artists citing the traffic law violation as the exact reason for the edit. Tablo described the process with the phrase "I kid you not," emphasizing how the notification arrived directly from the authorities.

A short clip of the discussion circulated widely on social media, drawing comments from netizens who pointed out perceived inconsistencies in enforcement. Some users noted that serious offenses receive lighter scrutiny while minor references in songs trigger blocks.

The episode aired shortly before the June 19 report and has fueled conversations about artistic freedom under current regulations.
