Government appoints investigation into social services

The government has appointed an investigation to strengthen legal security in social services following several journalistic reviews.

Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M) announced at a press conference that the investigation will examine particularly complex and intrusive cases.

Investigator Anders Hagsgård will also review the division of responsibilities between politicians and officials. Both the Liberals and the Moderates want to shift decision-making power from politicians to officials in such cases.

Reviews by SVT’s Uppdrag Granskning and Kaliber on Sveriges Radio have shown erroneous child removals in Örebro. The government received a similar report in February.
