The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs has set 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah to fall on Monday May 18 2026. Accordingly the Idul Adha holiday on 10 Zulhijah will be celebrated on Wednesday May 27 2026.
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar announced the decision after the isbat session in Jakarta on Sunday May 17 2026. The determination was based on rukyatul hilal observations from 88 locations across Indonesia showing the crescent moon met MABIMS criteria with a minimum height of 3 degrees and elongation of 6.4 degrees.
The ruling also aligns with astronomical hisab calculations and the Global Hijri Calendar method used by Muhammadiyah. Nasaruddin Umar stated the session results had been deliberated with scholars community organization leaders experts in Islamic astronomy and other figures.
This determination serves as the official reference for Idul Adha observances in Indonesia including Tarwiyah and Arafah fasting as well as sacrificial animal slaughter.
