Hyundai Motor advances digital engineering at Namyang R&D Center

Hyundai Motor Group showcased its shift to digital-first vehicle development during a July 2 media tour of the Namyang R&D Center.

The tour at the Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong took place on June 30. The facility uses a driving simulator, Digital Measuring Center, Additive Manufacturing Solution Center and NOVA Lab to reduce reliance on physical prototypes.

Team head Jeong Pil-young said the simulator cut testing time from one to two months to about a week. Team head Kim Sang-yeon noted the wire car stage detects 150 to 200 software conflicts per program.

Hyundai Motor stated that leveraging digital technologies reduces development time and enhances quality to lead future mobility. The approach reflects a wider industry move toward virtual engineering.
