Jennifer Aniston is no longer attached to the television version of the memoir. She had been set to serve as an executive producer and star as the fictional version of McCurdy's mother.
The show was announced in June 2025. Director Jason Reitman later left the project after creative differences with McCurdy, who opposed efforts to make the series more comedic than the original book.
The departure created further delays because a replacement director was needed quickly to accommodate Aniston's schedule. The show has faced a rocky development process overall.
