Lando Norris wins Hungarian Grand Prix for McLaren

Lando Norris took victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position, securing McLaren's first win of the 2026 Formula 1 season. The result came after the team introduced a new floor upgrade suited to the high-downforce Hungaroring circuit.

Norris converted pole into the win, though the margin over Lewis Hamilton was just 0.012 seconds in qualifying. Ferrari encountered multiple setbacks including a grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri, which contributed to underperformance on race day.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur noted the team's pace was strong in practice but execution faltered. "We lost the pole for 0.01 seconds and I think today the execution was very poor," he said.

Mercedes also faced setup challenges but achieved a podium with championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Team principal Toto Wolff remarked that a podium would have been accepted beforehand, yet the outcome felt like it could have been better.

McLaren boss Andrea Stella cautioned against overinterpreting the result. "Pole position is a little bit of an overachievement thanks to execution," he stated, while noting the team may have benefited from rivals' issues.

McLaren secured victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix after Lando Norris started from pole position. The team ended a period of Mercedes dominance in recent races. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said the result was not unexpected on this track.

McLaren's Lando Norris won the Miami Grand Prix sprint race ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri for a 1-2 finish, but the team slipped to fourth and seventh in grand prix qualifying. Both drivers attributed the drop to rivals improving their performance rather than any decline from McLaren. Team principal Andrea Stella praised early signs from the team's upgrades.

Lando Norris qualified eighth for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, his worst grid position of the season. The McLaren driver attributed the result to ongoing issues with his car's front-end feel and driveability.
