Victoria Mboko withdraws from Wimbledon with knee injury

Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko has withdrawn from Wimbledon after sustaining a left knee injury during the HSBC Championships. The world No. 9 announced the decision on social media and expressed disappointment at missing the tournament.

Mboko suffered the injury in a fall during her singles match against Karolina Pliskova at the Queen’s Club in London. She twisted her left knee and later confirmed it was a medial collateral ligament tear, forcing her out of the remainder of the grass-court season.

In an Instagram post, Mboko wrote that the fall on Wednesday caused the injury and meant she would miss Wimbledon, a tournament she had looked forward to playing. She also issued an apology to her doubles partner Serena Williams, saying she hoped they could play together again soon.

Several athletes sent messages of support, including Williams, who wished her a speedy recovery, and Lindsey Vonn, who called the setback just a bump in the road. Mboko is expected to focus on recovery ahead of the hard-court season starting in late July.
