Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy held talks with Albin Loidl, president of the German Travel Association (DRV), senior DRV official Volker Adams, and executives from leading German operators including Bentour Reisen, Sancarbarlaz Tours, Biblische Reisen, Ferien Touristik, Coral Travel, and DER Tour. The meeting at the Giza Pyramids was also attended by Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board, and Ashraf Mohieldin, Director General of Giza Antiquities.
The event forms part of a familiarisation trip organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with the DRV, running until 27 April. Discussions addressed regional developments and their impact on global tourism flows, industry challenges such as rising aviation fuel costs, and positive indicators for inbound travel to Egypt.
Fathy outlined the ministry's strategy, centred on Egypt's unique tourism offerings, including expansion of products like the Holy Family Trail, MICE tourism, and new destinations such as the North Coast. He highlighted preparations for the opening of the Aten Museum in Minya to boost visitors to Upper Egypt.
Loidl and the delegation praised Egypt's recent infrastructure improvements and the Grand Egyptian Museum as a key enhancement to its global competitiveness. The programme features visits to sites in Cairo, Alexandria, and the North Coast to promote less conventional destinations to the German market.
