EvieB announces retro soul single 'Living in a standstill'

Irish singer-songwriter EvieB has revealed her latest single, 'Living in a Standstill,' set for release on February 25. The track delves into feelings of stagnation and uncertainty, particularly in creative pursuits. Drawing from her musical family background, EvieB continues to build on her emerging career with this emotionally resonant release.

EvieB, whose real name is Eve Buckley, grew up surrounded by music, influenced by a family deeply involved in the arts. Her father, renowned saxophonist Richie Buckley, has performed with artists such as Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, The Cranberries, Christy Moore, and Sinéad O’Connor. Her grandfather, Philip O’Brien, was a highly respected pianist. This heritage has shaped her songwriting, which emphasizes storytelling and emotional depth, inspired by figures like Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell.

The new single 'Living in a Standstill' explores the sensation of being stuck in a rut and questioning life's direction. EvieB explains: “the song explores the feeling of being stuck in a rut, of questioning progress and direction in life. It speaks particularly to the uncertainty of pursuing a career in the creative industry, where the future can feel unpredictable and security hard to grasp. The track was inspired by conversations I’ve had with people across all ages and professions, which revealed just how universal this sense of unease and stagnation is.”

Recorded with long-time collaborator and producer John Reynolds—who has worked with Sinéad O’Connor, Peter Gabriel, and U2—the single brings a retro soul vibe to her sound. EvieB has previously supported Irish music legends including Mary Black, Mundy, and Mary Coughlan, and shared stages with Sharon Shannon, Cait O’Riordan, and Camille O’Sullivan. She has been championed by outlets such as Hot Press, RTÉ, Ireland AM, Beta Da Silva, 2FM, and the 6 O’Clock Show.

This release follows her debut single 'Out of the Light' in March 2024, 'Fading on Me' later that year, and 'Atlantic Way' in 2025. All three have been featured in TV soundtracks. EvieB is planning a series of releases leading to her debut album later this year.
