Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung removes guest article by Mario Voigt over AI concerns

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung has removed a guest contribution by Thuringia's Minister President Mario Voigt from its website. The reason is the suspicion that the text may have been created using artificial intelligence. The Thuringia state chancellery had responded evasively to the newspaper's questions.

The contribution on the topic of a social media ban for children and young people had appeared in the print edition last summer. The portal Frag den Staat had found indications that the text could have been written with AI. The FAZ referred to its rules under which no original contributions with AI-generated text are published. The state chancellery stated that AI is used as a supporting tool and there is no obligation to label it. In early June, a guest contribution by Voigt and Saxony-Anhalt's Minister President Sven Schulze for Die Welt had already come under suspicion of AI use. Voigt is also under pressure due to plagiarism allegations after TU Chemnitz revoked his doctorate. On June 10, 2026, Voigt received backing from BSW state chairwoman Katja Wolf, who praised the quality of AI for summaries and formulation assistance.
