Indonesia's DPR passes Domestic Workers Protection Law

Indonesia's DPR passed the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) into law during a plenary session on April 21, 2026. Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas welcomed it as the government's commitment to shield domestic workers from exploitation and harassment. The law covers recruitment, vocational training, and conflict resolution.

During a plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Indonesia's DPR officially passed the RUU PPRT into law. Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan reported on the bill's deliberation to DPR Speaker Puan Maharani and Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas. Puan sought approval from the factions, which responded "Agreed," before she banged the gavel.

Supratman Andi Agtas emphasized that the UU PPRT reflects the government's duty to protect and oversee domestic work arrangements. "The state, in this case the government, has an obligation in the labor sector to provide protection and supervision over the implementation of domestic workers," he said at the DPR building. The law aims to ensure legal certainty, prevent discrimination, exploitation, and harassment, and promote harmonious work relations and worker welfare.

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, welcomed the passage as the culmination of decades of struggle. "I welcome it well and we all give thanks after decades of effort to realize this law, it has finally been approved," he stated. He described it as a new era of work equality, while noting challenges such as employers' ability to meet obligations, which can be addressed through mutual agreements.
