Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh has proposed amendments to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, to decriminalise minor civic offences and make the regulatory framework more citizen-friendly. He stated that these changes reflect a shift from punitive enforcement to a balanced, compliance-oriented approach.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said on Sunday that the proposed amendments to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 aim to decriminalise minor civic offences and render the regulatory framework more citizen-friendly, rational, and facilitative.
“These proposed changes reflect a shift from punitive enforcement to a more balanced, compliance-oriented approach that promotes cooperation between citizens and the municipal administration,” the mayor said.
The amendments focus on making MCD regulations more collaborative, emphasising compliance over strict penalties for minor violations. Raja Iqbal Singh stressed that this step will foster better relations between citizens and the administration.
