Officials announced that water deliveries from the cutzamala system to mexico city and the state of mexico will decrease starting sunday, may 17. The step aims to protect the system's current storage levels.
Citlalli peraza camacho, director general of the organismo de cuenca aguas del valle de méxico, said the current flow of 16 cubic meters per second will be lowered to protect the 546 million cubic meters now stored.
She spoke at the launch of the joint flood prevention protocol for 2026 in nezahualcóyotl and ecatepec. The system stands at 69.79 percent of capacity, she added.
Peraza camacho noted the volume could rise again if needed during the 2026 world cup. The cutzamala system supplies the mexico city metropolitan area and towns in the state of mexico including toluca, lerma and ocoyoacac.
