Build A Rocket Boy drops MindsEye price to $35, launches Blacklisted DLC after IO Interactive split

Following its February 'reset' update and March layoffs, Build A Rocket Boy has slashed the price of troubled game MindsEye from $60 to $35 across platforms while shifting to self-publishing after parting with IO Interactive. The studio also released espionage-themed Blacklisted DLC and tools for player-created content.

Build A Rocket Boy, founded by ex-Rockstar veteran Leslie Benzies, announced on April 28, 2026, that it is now self-publishing MindsEye after splitting from publisher IO Interactive. To mark the change and revive interest in the 2025 launch flop—2025's worst-reviewed game on Metacritic, plagued by bugs and criticism—the studio implemented a permanent price cut from $60 to $35 on all platforms.

Co-CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard said, “Now is the perfect time to experience MindsEye, with over a year of enhancements, new content, and a more accessible price of entry. We look forward to continuing to expand MindsEye and ARCADIA, and seeing what players and creators will accomplish next.”

The update features the Blacklisted DLC, introducing character Julia Black in a story mission set in a teetering city. New ARCADIA-powered tools enable custom missions, races, and activities.

This follows earlier turbulence: the February 'reset' update amid sabotage claims, March layoffs, and Gerhard's prior mentions of alleged criminal activity and investigations.

Build a Rocket Boy, developer of the struggling open-world shooter MindsEye, has laid off roughly 170 of its 250 staff—its third round of redundancies in the past year—leaving around 80 employees, sources tell Kotaku. The cuts follow two prior rounds, the March 2026 closure of its French studio, and come amid poor reception to a recent Blacklist update.

CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the studio has indefinitely lost the faith of some fans following the troubled 2020 launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
