Build A Rocket Boy drops MindsEye price to $35, launches Blacklisted DLC after IO Interactive split

Following its February 'reset' update and March layoffs, Build A Rocket Boy has slashed the price of troubled game MindsEye from $60 to $35 across platforms while shifting to self-publishing after parting with IO Interactive. The studio also released espionage-themed Blacklisted DLC and tools for player-created content.

Build A Rocket Boy, founded by ex-Rockstar veteran Leslie Benzies, announced on April 28, 2026, that it is now self-publishing MindsEye after splitting from publisher IO Interactive. To mark the change and revive interest in the 2025 launch flop—2025's worst-reviewed game on Metacritic, plagued by bugs and criticism—the studio implemented a permanent price cut from $60 to $35 on all platforms.

Co-CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard said, “Now is the perfect time to experience MindsEye, with over a year of enhancements, new content, and a more accessible price of entry. We look forward to continuing to expand MindsEye and ARCADIA, and seeing what players and creators will accomplish next.”

The update features the Blacklisted DLC, introducing character Julia Black in a story mission set in a teetering city. New ARCADIA-powered tools enable custom missions, races, and activities.

This follows earlier turbulence: the February 'reset' update amid sabotage claims, March layoffs, and Gerhard's prior mentions of alleged criminal activity and investigations.

Arrowhead Game Studios is set to release a major update for Helldivers 2 on February 10, 2026, introducing the returning cyborg faction and a new battle for Cyberstan. Game director Mikael Eriksson discussed how player actions will shape the game's ongoing narrative. New enemies include agitators, radicals, and the vox engine vehicle.

Build A Rocket Boy has announced further layoffs—the third round since MindsEye's launch—attributing them to industry woes and alleging organized espionage and sabotage. Co-CEO Mark Gerhard said the studio's investigation into these claims is progressing toward prosecution.

Mark Gerhard, CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, described the launch of the studio's shooter MindsEye as 'the worst launch in history.' He attributed many issues to sabotage and said the studio plans to share evidence in an upcoming multiplayer update. Gerhard also noted improving sales and reviews since the game's release last June.

Several indie game showcases took place on Thursday, highlighting upcoming titles and new releases across platforms like Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PS5. Highlights include Zelda-inspired adventures, skateboarding games, and innovative concepts from solo developers. Steam Next Fest runs from February 23 to March 2, offering demos for many titles.

Bungie's Marathon extraction shooter reportedly cost over $200 million to develop, with sources indicating the figure likely exceeds $250 million excluding post-launch expenses. Steam player numbers have fallen 68 percent from launch peaks, yet team morale at the studio remains strong. Developers have affirmed commitment to the game's long-term support.

ZA/UM announced that Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, a grand spy RPG from developers behind Disco Elysium, will launch on PC on May 21. The game features operant Hershel Wilk, alias CASCADE, on a mysterious assignment five years after a disastrous mission. It becomes the first Disco Elysium successor with a confirmed release date.

One day after Bungie's sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon launched on March 5, 2026, Steam concurrent players peaked near 90,000 but fell over 50% within 24 hours, fueling community concerns. Criticism targeted the $10 premium battle pass and store prices, alongside day-one exploits and delays, though artist Fern 'Antireal' Hook is now credited.
