Francisco Martínez and Alejandra Mizala head to runoff for University of Chile rectorship

No candidate secured an absolute majority in the first round, so Alejandra Mizala and Francisco Martínez will compete on June 2 for the rectorship for the 2026-2030 term.

After polls closed, results showed Mizala received 42.72% of the weighted votes, while Martínez obtained 23.02%. Sergio Lavandero and Pablo Ruiz-Tagle were eliminated with 22.33% and 11.75%, respectively.

Turnout reached 72% of 4,222 eligible academics, a record aided by the first-time use of electronic voting in this process. The runoff will take place on June 2 via electronic ballot.

Voters are professors with at least one year of seniority at the institution. Current rector Rosa Devés had won outright in 2022 with 51.6% of the vote.
