Kuomintang chairwoman Cheng Li-wun experienced a drone-delivered milk tea at Meituan's Shanghai headquarters, calling it a valuable lesson for Taiwan. She paid homage at Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in Nanjing and urged stronger cross-strait cooperation and peace. The visit covers Jiangsu, Shanghai and Beijing through Sunday.

Kuomintang chairwoman Cheng Li-wun led a delegation to Nanjing on Wednesday, paying homage at Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in line with tradition. She ascended 392 steps and presented a wreath, marking the first such visit by a KMT chairperson in a decade. The trip coincides with the 160th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth.

After the ceremony, Cheng said the visit aimed to "plant the seeds of peace" for people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and humanity at large. She described pursuing peace as the KMT's historical responsibility and noted mainland progress exceeding expectations, calling for reconciliation, unity and regional prosperity.

In the afternoon, Cheng's group arrived in Shanghai and experienced drone delivery at Meituan headquarters. Meituan, China's largest online takeaway platform known as Keeta outside the mainland, extensively uses AI for delivery routes, times and customer service. A drone delivered milk tea to Cheng, who said, “Seeing this example today is a very good experience for Taiwan.” She added that Taiwan's service industry must fully integrate internet and AI for future development.

Cheng later visited Yangpu Riverside and attended a Shanghai-Taiwan youth exchange, where young Taiwanese studying or working on the mainland shared experiences. She stressed smoother cross-strait communication for youth opportunities. State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian said the visit reflects dialogue on the 1992 Consensus opposing Taiwan independence and aligns with Taiwanese public opinion favoring peace and cooperation.

Cosa dice la gente

Mainland-affiliated accounts and media highlight her enthusiasm and calls for cross-strait cooperation and peace during visits to Nanjing's Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Taiwanese observers express skepticism, accusing her of echoing CCP narratives on history and unification.
