Marlins place Max Meyer on injured list with neck strain

The Miami Marlins placed All-Star right-hander Max Meyer on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain on Monday, retroactive to Sunday. The team recalled right-hander Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Jacksonville to bolster the roster. Meyer traveled to Los Angeles to consult with specialist Dr. Robert Watkins IV.

Manager Clayton McCullough said Meyer first noticed the issue during his July 7 start against the Seattle Mariners. The team skipped his scheduled outing on July 12 ahead of the All-Star break, but he experienced a similar sensation in the third inning of his most recent start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

"He felt a little sensation in the neck area in that outing," McCullough said. "We felt like it was worth going to get some further examination on that."

Meyer allowed two runs in three innings during Saturday's outing. The 27-year-old has already exceeded his previous career highs in innings and starts this season. This marks the fifth consecutive year he has missed time due to injury.

McCullough indicated there is currently no timetable for Meyer's return. "We will remain optimistic that we can get Max back," he said. The Marlins, who have lost six straight games, will rely on Sandy Alcantara and Eury Pérez in the rotation while assessing options such as Ryan Gusto for Meyer's next turn.
