A Pontiac jury found Michael Webb guilty of first-degree murder last week for fatally shooting his fiancee, Rachel Wooten, in their Highland Township home in 2025.
The 23-year-old was also convicted of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Prosecutors said Webb shot Wooten in the neck at close range on April 15, 2025, while their 6-month-old child was inside the residence.
Webb called 911 and claimed the shooting was an accident while cleaning his gun. Evidence did not support that account, and Wooten had texted a family member that day saying she feared for her life.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald stated that Webb executed Wooten and then lied. Webb suffered a non-fatal self-inflicted wound from the same bullet.
Webb is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 7.
