PBS Masterpiece orders Monarch of the Glen reboot

PBS Masterpiece has given a series order to a reimagining of the beloved Scottish dramedy Monarch of the Glen. The six-episode series centers on a London lawyer inheriting family debt in the Scottish Highlands. It promises a family saga of legacy, love, and survival amid stunning landscapes.

A new version of Monarch of the Glen will air on PBS Masterpiece, TVLine has learned. The series returns to the Scottish Highlands for a rich, romantic, and humorous story. It introduces high-flying London lawyer Isla Campbell, who travels to Scotland for her father's funeral and discovers a million-pound debt, a closing bank, and a brother unwilling to relinquish their ancestral home. The siblings must unite under one roof to save the struggling estate before it is lost forever. The show features an ensemble of new characters, blending heart, humor, and romance against breathtaking backdrops, roaring hearths, and tight-knit communities. Jeremy Brock, known for A Very Royal Scandal, created the series and co-wrote it with Stephen Greenhorn of Dept. Q. No casting details have been announced. The original Monarch of the Glen debuted on BBC in 2000, starring Alastair Mackenzie as Archie MacDonald, a London restaurateur rebuilding his family's estate amid eccentric locals. It ran for seven seasons and became a PBS fan favorite in the early 2000s in the U.S., though key cast members like Mackenzie departed before the end, with his character moving to New Zealand. Brock expressed enthusiasm in a statement: 'When I was offered the chance to reimagine Monarch of the Glen, I leapt at it. I'm hugely excited by the opportunity to tell a story of family life and finding your place in our hectic world — one that celebrates the warmth, humour and eccentricities of a special community, with both optimism and authenticity. Hope and joy are a currency in short supply right now, and the Highlands — one of the most magical places on Earth — felt like exactly the right home for them.'
