Pennsylvania woman charged after slamming son into Walmart cart

A Pennsylvania woman faces multiple assault charges after allegedly knocking her young son unconscious by slamming him into a shopping cart at a Walmart store. The incident occurred on March 14 in Tullytown, drawing a police welfare check from witnesses who saw her dragging the child.

On March 14, Tullytown Borough Police responded to a welfare check at the Walmart in the 100 block of Levittown Parkway. A witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Samantha Fletcher, acting belligerently while shopping with two small children. The witness described her as appearing under the influence, screaming profanities, and dragging one child around the floor by a backpack leash while he cried hysterically. The woman then picked up the child and dropped him into a shopping cart, causing him to hit his head and lose consciousness, according to the police news release. Officers found Fletcher holding the unresponsive boy in her arms, with another child asleep in the cart. The boy had a large bruise on his forehead, and medics determined he needed immediate attention. He was transported by ambulance to St. Mary Medical Center, where a CT scan revealed a serious concussion. Fletcher was arrested and charged with one count each of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault. She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Terrence P. Hughes and ordered held at Bucks County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bond. Authorities contacted child protective services, and the children were released to their father. Fletcher is scheduled for another court appearance on April 24. Court documents detail that Fletcher repeatedly slammed the boy in and out of the cart at least five times, with shoppers offering help but her actions escalating.
