Sophie Turner's injury halts production on Amazon's Tomb Raider series

Production on Amazon Prime's Tomb Raider TV series has paused after star Sophie Turner suffered a back injury. Conflicting reports describe the injury as either minor with a two-week recovery or potentially long-term, putting the show at risk. Amazon looks forward to resuming filming soon.

Filming for the Tomb Raider adaptation came to a halt following an injury to Sophie Turner, who plays Lara Croft. The back issue, which Turner acknowledged in a January SiriusXM interview, stems from training last year and the role's physical demands. Set photos from last month showed Turner performing stunts, including a parachute jump, in UK woodlands. A TMZ post on February 6 highlighted her parachute stunt connected to wires. Phoebe Waller-Bridge created the series, with Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis and Jason Isaacs as Lara's uncle Atlas. Filming began in January, but no release date has been set. Conflicting accounts emerged on the injury's severity. A show spokesperson told Yahoo News and Page Six that it is minor, with Turner out for a couple of weeks and crew paid during prep work. 'We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible,' the spokesperson said. In contrast, The Sun reported a month-long hiatus, possibly up to six months, with a source stating, 'It's been chaos on set and now the whole show is in jeopardy.' That source added, 'Many on set fear Sophie may have to be replaced altogether now, as she may not bounce back in time.' Turner and Amazon have not commented directly.
