Tate brothers appear in Miami court on new charges

Andrew and Tristan Tate appeared in federal court in Miami on Monday after their arrest on Saturday on rape and sex trafficking charges. The brothers, who are dual U.S. and British citizens, said they will fight extradition to the United Kingdom.

The Tates wore tan jail uniforms and handcuffs during the brief hearing before U.S. Magistrate Lauren Louis. They are being held in federal detention while a U.S. district judge considers whether they meet the conditions for extradition in the coming weeks.

Their attorney Joseph McBride described the new charges as "filth and slander" and said the brothers would "exhaust all remedies" to fight extradition. He told reporters the chances of their release were "slim to none."

British prosecutors brought the charges after receiving evidence from Bedfordshire Police. The allegations, involving four new victims and spanning 2010 to 2017, include rape, assault, trafficking and offenses relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. The brothers already face separate charges in the U.K. relating to three other alleged victims between 2012 and 2015.

The pair moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022 on separate allegations before being allowed to leave last year and fly to Florida.
