The first trailer for Backrooms was released on March 31, one of A24's most anticipated horror films for 2026. Directed by 20-year-old filmmaker Kane Parsons, it stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. It is set to premiere in Chilean cinemas on May 28.
The Backrooms trailer adapts an internet phenomenon that originated on 4chan in 2019, a creepypasta about endless labyrinths of empty offices that evoke unease and horror, linked to the kenopsia effect.
The film stars Oscar-nominated actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, along with Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. The story follows a therapist who enters a parallel dimension to find her missing patient. Parsons, who also composes the score with Edo van Breemen, is known as Kane Pixels on YouTube for his 2022 short The Backrooms (Found Footage), with 73 million views.
Backrooms is an independent production by A24, Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment, 21 Laps Entertainment, Phobos, and The North Road Company, featuring producers Shawn Levy and James Wan. The script is by Will Soodik, and 20-year-old Parsons is A24's youngest director.
The release is scheduled for May 28, 2026, in Chilean cinemas and May 29 internationally.
