US State Department to meet AmCham HK delegation

A senior US State Department official is expected to meet a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong during its annual trip to Washington.

The planned meeting comes after President Trump’s meeting with President Xi. It marks a possible shift in Washington’s approach to Hong Kong.

One source familiar with the matter said the official will be the highest-ranking State Department official to meet the Hong Kong delegation in the past several years. The source added that the meeting signals a warming up of relations.

In recent years the AmCham HK delegation has typically met officials at the level of principal deputy assistant secretary or deputy assistant secretary.
