A 45-year-old woman died after being swept away by a flash flood during heavy rain in Belo Horizonte on Saturday (March 21). The incident happened on Rua Felipe Camarão in the Horto Florestal neighborhood. Firefighters found her body trapped in debris near a drain.
The incident was reported around 5:30 p.m. on Rua Felipe Camarão in the Horto Florestal neighborhood, east Belo Horizonte. According to the Fire Department, teams from the 1st Battalion responded to a flooding call near Avenida Silviano Brandão after reports of people at risk from heavy rainfall that hit the capital on Saturday afternoon (March 21). During the search, firefighters found the body of the 45-year-old victim, who had been swept away by the current and trapped in accumulated debris near a drain, where she drowned. The Mobile Emergency Medical Service (Samu) confirmed death at the scene, with Military Police attending. The heavy rains caused widespread damage. On the following Sunday, firefighters handled 44 calls related to fallen trees: 26 on public roads, nine on vehicles, and nine on homes. In one incident in the Funcionários neighborhood on Avenida do Contorno, a family of three adults and two children was trapped for over two hours in a car hit by a tree. They were unharmed but waited for Fire Department rescue and Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig) technicians to ensure no electrocution risk.
