シティグループは、富裕層や機関投資家が非公開企業の株式に投資できるブロックチェーンベースの新商品「デジタル預託証券（Digital Depositary Receipts）」を発表した。
同行によると、ブロックチェーン技術を活用し、シティが発行・保管するデジタル預託証券を通じて、投資家を非公開企業の株式と結びつけるという。この仕組みでは、スイスの運営会社SIXが管理するブロックチェーン基盤上に証券が記録される。
本商品は、シティ・ベンチャーズが出資するデジタル資産企業Kaleidoが関与する取引で初披露された。投資家は直接の原資産となる株式ではなく預託証券を保有する形となり、シティが発行体兼カストディアンを務める。
シティは今後、パブリックブロックチェーンへの対応を含め、同サービスの拡充を計画している。同銀行は今月初め、他の米大手金融機関と共同で、ザ・クリアリング・ハウスを通じた共有トークン化預金ネットワークの開発に加わった。2027年半ばの立ち上げを目標としている。
