Elderly man beaten to death by neighbor after stealing two chayotes

The victim, identified as M, an elderly man, stole two chayote fruits from his neighbor's garden to prepare iftar food during Ramadan. The assault occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in front of the victim's home in Kampung Bayabang, Desa Talaga, Cugenang subdistrict, Cianjur regency.

Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Akhmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi stated that the perpetrator assaulted the victim with bare hands. "The perpetrator punched the victim with bare hands and kicked him, causing bruises on the eye, head, neck injury, bruises on the shoulder and arm, bloody nose, and vomiting," he said on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The victim managed to flee into his house, but the perpetrator chased and continued the beating. The victim's brother, Cucum, attempted to intervene, but the staggering victim, dizzy from head injuries, showed him the two chayotes.

The victim died on Monday, March 2, 2026, around 11:30 a.m. WIB at his home. His brother then reported the matter to the police.
