The family of late Julia Perez, known as Jupe, has revealed why her planned shelter for child cancer patients in Pondok Ranggon remains unused. Sister Nia Anggia cited complex permits and high costs as main hurdles. The building, long vacant, also needs major repairs.
The shelter house plan originated while Julia Perez underwent cancer treatment. She aimed to provide a comfortable stay for children receiving similar care. Yet, even after her passing, the project has not fully materialized.
On April 21, 2026, sister Nia Anggia said, “The shelter house is still there. But we haven't run it. Because to make it a shelter house, the process isn't easy; it needs permits and big costs.” She added, “The shelter house was just built when Kak Jupe was sick then. Until Kak Jupe passed away, we couldn't realize it because of those two things.”
Located in Pondok Ranggon, the building is a family inheritance from their mother. Vacant for years, parts of the house have deteriorated and require extensive renovations. Nia noted, “Yes, that's actually mama's inherited house, because it was empty and unoccupied for years, now many parts are damaged and it needs big costs for renovation.”
The family is considering next steps to fulfill Jupe's noble intention.
