Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has explained rejecting a proposal to tarmac the road to his Tseikuru home during his time as deputy president, defending against President Ruto's criticisms in the context of the newly announced Kyuso-Tseikuru road upgrade.
In response to President William Ruto's recent jabs questioning his 40 years in government without improving the road to his Tseikuru home in Mwingi North, Kitui County, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed he deliberately refused a targeted upgrade.
This follows the Kenya National Highways Authority's (KeNHA) December 23 announcement of a tender to strengthen and upgrade the dusty Kyuso-Tseikuru road to bitumen standards—a route leading to Musyoka's ancestral home—amid their public spat.
Musyoka recounted that as deputy president, Roads Principal Secretary Michael Kamau proposed tarmacking 21 kilometers specifically on the Tseikuru-Kyuso road. He rejected it, insisting work begin from Mwingi to Kamuongo to ensure fairness. “Leaders must show justice, not selfishness. I prioritized the Mwingi-Kyuso-Garissa road first,” he stated, invoking the proverb that “children eat first, adults last,” predicting the tarmac would eventually reach home.
He touted other achievements like the Kiambere to Mwingi water project and accused Ruto of fixating on him as the strongest 2027 election rival, diverting projects to his own residences instead of national needs.
